DR. DAVE'S FITNESS QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK

If a woman lifts weights, will she get big muscles and look like a man?

Great question. The answer is absolutely not. The main hormone responsible for building muscle is testosterone. Both men and women have testosterone but men have 6-10 times more, that is why they usually have bigger muscles. The women that you see in magazines that have really large muscles have taken some sort of anabolic supplement to allow their muscles to grow that large. Women will get bigger muscles (hypertrophy) when they weight train, but they will not grow naturally as large as men’s.
